1. Go to the Wise website: Wise.com and create a free account.

Account verification can take up to 4 to 5 days, depending on your country.

3. Check your fees upfront

On the right side of the page is the Wise calculator that shows you upfront all fees charged as well as the arrival date of your money in the recipient's account.

Let's say you're sending money from India and you want the recipient in Germany to receive exactly 1,000 euros, enter that amount in "recipient gets exactly" and choose the currency in EUR.

Wise will do the calculation and show you the total amount you need to send so that the recipient in Germany receives exactly 1,000 euros. The gross amount you're supposed to send already includes the INR-EUR exchange rate and the total fees charged by Wise, which is 1,951.79 INR.

4. If you're not transferring money to other people, click "Personal" and fill in your details.

5. Click on the recipient. Is it that simple? Let's say you want to send money to another person.

6. Fill in the recipient's details.

The IBAN is an international account numbering system commonly used for international transfers. Your recipient will provide you with their IBAN, and if they don't, ask for it. Otherwise, you won't be able to send money.

7. Identity verification (temporary)

If this is your first transfer via Wise, you need to verify your account by uploading your ID document (passport, national ID card, or driver's license). Remember that it must be in photo format, as PDF files are not accepted.

8. Review the details of your transfer.

You'll find all the information, including the amount, your details, and those of your recipient. Make sure everything is correct, and if you spot an error, you can always go back to fix it. No worries - just make sure each piece of information is accurate.

9. Let's move on to the very last part: how do you like to pay?

There are four options: debit card, POLi bank transfer, credit card, and bank transfer. Each has its pros and cons, but here, we'd like to focus on the bank transfer, because it can be (just slightly) more complicated than the others. The good news is that it can save you daily limits (unlike debit cards), security risks (unlike POLi transfers), or extra fees (unlike credit cards).

Wise will send you the bank details, depending on where your bank account was originally opened. For example, if you're sending money from an Indian bank account, you'll receive Wise's Indian bank account details.

Don't forget to use the reference number provided by Wise so they know it's you who sent the money. You can put it in the transfer description, which is usually optional for the sending bank, but this time, it's mandatory. Never forget your reference number!

Have you finished everything? Now, relax and have fun because you won't need to deal with the complicated task of sending money abroad anymore. Wise takes care of the rest!
