As a game designer, you will develop and execute new game ideas for various target groups with the assistance of state-of-the-art technology. During your Game Design studies, you will acquire a wide range of skills in the fields of computer science, media technology, and media design. In addition to the basics of computer science, universities also provide subject-specific courses in game development and level design, computer game technology, and graphics programming in learning modules. Your games must be able to stand out among the wide variety of games in the market. That's why you need to be well-trained in media studies, media research, game marketing, and business management. Theoretical and practical knowledge go hand in hand. You will learn how to visually portray scenarios and characters that fit the game storylines. To put this into practice, lessons in graphic design, classical and digital artwork, 3D techniques as well as music and sound are essential parts of the studies. A Bachelor's program usually lasts 6 -8 semesters. The final examination consists of performance certificates for the individual modules and a Bachelor thesis. Depending on your university and the exact title of your study program, you will obtain a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
