The Deutsche Post AG is the German postal service provider that delivers your letters and parcels around Germany and to other parts of the world. Post offices in Germany are painted in yellow with a black postal horn emblem. You can either go straight to a post office or use several quick services on the go.
The post office staff at the counter will tell you how much your letters and parcels cost, but you can also find out online by using the postage calculator. The price varies depending on how big and heavy your item is as well as where it is sent to. It costs you 60 cents to send a letter under 20g and 45 cents to send postcards. For international delivery, the initial postal fee for any larger parcels under 500g is around 3.50 euros. You can buy stamps at the post office, at the stamp vending machines, and on the Deutsche Post website.
It is also easy to send mails internationally. You can first check the cost online by Deutsche Post’s calculator and then buy a stamp to stick on your mails. To see how long it will take for your parcels to reach home, view the Deutsche Post country information page. You can also drop your mails off at the “Packstationen” but don’t forget to buy the postage online beforehand as you can’t get one on the site.
Besides Deutsche Post AG, there are other prestigious providers such as DHL, Hermes, GLS, DPD, UPS. shipping services on amazon. Check them out so that you can decide on the best one for you!
If you go to the package station or kiosk to send a letter or package, you can choose if you want to make your letter “einschreiben” (registered). Once you have registered your mails, your parcels will be more secured and easier to track. You will always get a tracking number after registering your packages so that you can know exactly where your package is at any time.
It is usually within 1 or 2 business working days at the longest to send a letter in Germany. But it also depends on each season. For example, the post is especially busy when Christmas is around the corner so it can take up to 2-3 business working days.
A standard parcel doesn't have any regular delivering duration. Generally, it can take from 1 business working day to 1 or 2 weeks. The post office will always offer a kind of express delivery service, with which the parcels are delivered the next day.
The duration of delivery within Europe and outside of Europe is also quite different. In case you want to send your documents and other important items via post, we strongly suggest you send them using shipping insurance services or directly with “Einschreibung”.
It is so sweet of German Post that children can also send their wish lists to Santa Claus. You will find the address of Santa Claus in the following link! Do you want to give it a try too?
